CYCLE AND PERIODS

🔄 The life cycle of the Asian hornet

The Asian hornet's life cycle lasts for a full year.

In spring, a queen emerges from hibernation and begins building a small nest on her own. She lays her first eggs there.

At the beginning of summer, the first worker bees are born and take over. The nest grows rapidly and the colony develops.

In summer and autumn, the population is at its peak. The hornets are very active and the nests become imposing.

As winter approaches, the colony disappears. Only the young queens survive and hibernate to begin the cycle again the following year.

📅 Key periods to know

Certain times of the year are more important than others for taking effective action.

  • Spring: ideal time for prevention and targeted trapping of queens.

  • Summer: increased monitoring, appearance of secondary nests.

  • Autumn: high activity, increased risks near nests.

  • Winter: decreased activity, spotting of nests which have become visible without the leaves.

Understanding these periods allows us to better anticipate, limit risks and act at the right time.
